Lee Sullens, a member at the Summit and campus minister of the BCM at UNC-CH, has experienced what can only be called a miracle, in my opinion. Lee was in a motorcycle accident 4 weeks ago, in which he smashed two of his vertebrae up toward his neck. Neurosurgeons at UNC feared paralysis and wanted to do immediate surgery, but at the last minute decided to hold off and observe Lee, believing that the surgery might trigger the paralysis. Lee was put into a full neck/back brace and put to bedrest for a long recovery time.
This was devastating for Lee, a father of 2 young children, whose year of ministry had just begun at Chapel Hill. This was an incredibly strategic time for the ministry, as last year was a rebuilding year for the ministry and they are poised to really take off this year. This injury would all but kill any momentum.
This past Thursday he went to the doctor for his three week checkup, and the doctors were astounded that Lee was completely healed. Not only that, they could not find any evidence that the bones had ever been broken. I'm not a bone surgeon, but I know what when a bone is broken not only does it not heal in 3 weeks but it also bears a permanent marking that it's been broken. The doctor said it is like new.
Is it a miracle? I don't know. I don't take it on myself to declare things like that. But, in the words of Lee, one of two things had to be true: either a team of the smartest neurosurgeons in the world were completely off in their diagnosis, or God did a miracle. Seems like you have an "impossibility" either way.
What I do know is that it's an answer to prayer. It will be awesome to see what God does with that ministry this year.
